Vaiśampāyana said: On seeing that ocean of kings angrily agitated like the sea, Yudhiṣṭhira spoke
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: राजाओं के उस समुद्र को समुद्र के समान क्रोधित होते देखकर युधिष्ठिर बोले।
to the old Bhīṣma, best among those who are intelligent and the grandfather of the Kuru-s. It was like the greatly energetic Puruhūta speaking to Bṛhaspati.
वृद्ध भीष्म, बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ और कुरुवंश के पितामह। यह अत्यंत ऊर्जावान पुरुहुत के बृहस्पति से बात करने जैसा था।
"This great ocean of kings is agitated with anger. O grandfather! Tell me what I should do now.
"राजाओं का यह विशाल समुद्र क्रोध से व्याकुल हो उठा है। हे पितामह! अब मुझे बतायें कि मुझे क्या करना चाहिए।"

यज्ञस्य च न विघ्नः स्यात्प्रजानां च शिवं भवेत् यथा सर्वत्र तत्सर्वं ब्रूहि मेऽद्य पितामह
O grandfather! Tell me now, in detail and completely, what I must do to prevent an obstruction to the sacrifice, so that the welfare of the subjects is ensured."
हे दादा! अब मुझे विस्तार से और पूर्ण रूप से बताओ कि यज्ञ में बाधा उत्पन्न करने के लिए मुझे क्या करना चाहिए, ताकि प्रजा का कल्याण सुनिश्चित हो सके।”
When Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira, knowledgeable in dharma, uttered these words, Bhīṣma, the grandfather of the Kuru-s, thus spoke to him,
जब धर्म के जानकार धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर ने ये शब्द कहे, तो कुरुवंश के पितामह भीष्म ने उनसे इस प्रकार कहा,
"O tiger among the Kuru lineage! Do not be frightened. Can a dog kill a lion? I have already chosen a path that is auspicious and in conformity with good policy.
"हे कुरु वंश के व्याघ्र! डरो मत। क्या कोई कुत्ता शेर को मार सकता है? मैंने पहले ही ऐसा मार्ग चुन लिया है जो शुभ है और अच्छी नीति के अनुरूप है।
All these rulers of the earth bark like a pack of dogs around a sleeping lion.
पृथ्वी के ये सभी शासक सोते हुए सिंह के चारों ओर कुत्तों के झुंड की तरह भौंकते हैं।
O son! Like dogs angrily barking before a lion, they stand before the sleeping lion of the Vṛṣṇi lineage.
हे वत्स जैसे कुत्ते शेर के सामने गुस्से से भौंकते हैं, वैसे ही वे वृष्णि वंश के सोते हुए शेर के सामने खड़े होते हैं।

न हि संबुध्यते तावत्सुप्तः सिंह इवाच्युतः तेन सिंहीकरोत्येतान्नृसिंहश्चेदिपुंगवः
As long as the lion Acyuta is asleep, this bull among Cedi-s and like a lion himself, makes those others seem like lions.
जब तक शेर अक्यूटा सोता है, तब तक सेडी-एस के बीच यह बैल और खुद शेर की तरह, दूसरों को शेर जैसा बना देता है।
O best of kings! O son! Śiśupāla has limited sense. Through he who is the soul of everything, he desires to take all these kings to Yāma's abode.
हे राजाश्रेष्ठ! हे वत्स शिशुपाल की समझ सीमित थी। वह जो हर चीज की आत्मा है, उसके माध्यम से वह इन सभी राजाओं को यम के निवास पर ले जाना चाहता है।

नूनमेतत्समादातुं पुनरिच्छत्यधोक्षजः यदस्य शिशुपालस्थं तेजस्तिष्ठति भारत
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! It is certain that Adhokṣaja will take away Śiśupāla's energy.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! यह निश्चित है कि अधोक्षज शिशुपाल की ऊर्जा छीन लेगा।

विप्लुता चास्य भद्रं ते बुद्धिर्बुद्धिमतां वर चेदिराजस्य कौन्तेय सर्वेषां च महीक्षिताम्
O Kaunteya! O supreme among intelligent ones! You will be fortunate. The intelligence of the king of Cedi, and that of all these kings, has gone astray.
हे कौन्तेय! हे बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ! आप भाग्यशाली रहेंगे. सेदी के राजा और इन सभी राजाओं की बुद्धि भटक गई है।
Whomever that tiger among men wishes to take, his intelligence goes as astray as that of the king of Cedi.
मनुष्यों में वह व्याघ्र जिसे भी ले जाना चाहता है, उसकी बुद्धि सेदी के राजा के समान भटक जाती है।
O Yudhiṣṭhira! Mādhava is the creator and the destroyer of the four kinds of beings that exist in the three worlds."
हे युधिष्ठिर! माधव तीनों लोकों में मौजूद चार प्रकार के प्राणियों के निर्माता और विनाशक हैं।"
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Having heard these words, the king of Cedi replied to Bhīṣma in a harsh tone.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! ये बातें सुनकर चेदी राजा ने भीष्म को कठोर स्वर में उत्तर दिया।
